“Given its reach and resourcefulness, U.S. business is uniquely qualified to address certain root causes of anti-Americanism.”

Our STARS Strategy - How Business for Diplomatic Action Makes a Difference

  1. Sensitize Americans to the problem. Many Americans are unaware of, or don't care about, the continuing decline of our reputation in the world. We utilize communications expertise to raise awareness about the problem and its implications.
  2. Transform attitudes and behaviors. To change perceptions that Americans are rude and lack respect for other cultures, we develop educational programs for our citizens who work and/or travel abroad, we create improved and expanded public diplomacy initiatives, and we promote more user-friendly visa policies and port-of-entry procedures, all aimed at improving how and what people think of us.
  3. Accentuate the positive. To amplify the many good qualities that people historically respect and admire about America, we communicate the untold stories of U.S. companies giving back to societies around the world. And we encourage more international travel to America since visitors from other countries almost invariably think better of us after being here.
  4. Reach out to build new bridges. By shifting the global discussion from foreign policy to shared economic and social issues, U.S. business leaders can engage their counterparts in other countries to build new bridges of mutual respect and understanding.
  5. Serve as a connection between government and the private sector. While Business for Diplomatic Action is a non-political, business-driven organization, we work with our government to connect federal officials to the experience and creativity of the private sector.
